 Since
1995 Ucodep is working in Ecuador, in the Andean area of Cotacachi
(Imbabura Province) to realize improvement interventions in the field
of alimentation and agricultural production of indigenous communities.
In 2002 it also started to work in the Amazonian region in the
north-eastern part of the country, at the borders with Colombia, the
Sucumbius Province, where is located the important natural reserve of
Cuyabeno, in the sector of environment protection and health
protection.
Ucodep
intervention in Ecuador is deeply linked to the agricultural activity
and to the conservation of natural patrimony of the Amazonian Forest.
During the last decades, the agricultural sector has reduced its
profitability and the rural population had to face poverty
augmentation, soil impoverishment, environment condition worsening and
the reduction of the opportunity to accede to services as important ad
education and healthcare.
Moreover,
in the Sucumbios province an augmentation of oil extraction has been
registered, with severe environmental consequences.
